This is actually the gears of my bicycle, but the extreme close-up paints it as ambiguous and the diagonal lines give it a sense of unease.
This is part one the square shape experiment. I flattened the cube by shooting it straight on, but it still has some depth thanks to the shadow and the wall lines.
I positioned part two of my square shape experiment so the wall lines led to the cube. While the shape changed to a deeper "cube", I would argue that this photo actually feels flatter.
Even though it is bright at the farthest point, this "extreme" selfie still looks fairly deep. Perhaps it is the size of my body in the middle, since we all know how big a body is supposed to feel.
These pennants represent goals and desires, but looking at them just alone, as triangles, it feels very flat. And I want to know what they are pointing to.

I like that you chose to photograph the same object twice. To me it shows and important framing and lightning is. Even though they are different I like them both.
ReplyDeleteIn the first, the colors are more muted, the top of the plant is cut off by the frame and the pot is just slightly crooked.
I don’t know if it’s just me but the more I look at the second plant picture, the more the pot itself looks flat. This one is also brighter and very symmetrical, it looks like you took more time framing it. I like all the lines created and contrast of green against all the other dull colors.
The last picture makes me feel heavy on one side. That photo creates such a strong feeling of unbalance. The colors on the right are great and it has nice contrast against the wall. I like how you put the camera there to have the frame have a lot of open space on the right.
ReplyDeleteI really like your use of line and ambiguous space in your first photo. I also like your experimentation with line and shape in photos 2 and 3. The positioning of the camera and plant create very different feelings, and it's cool that you tried that.
