Photos of the Day: January 4-8

These self-brewed drinks were at a party. Two of them were labeled "Silent Night". And they look like poison. I lined them up in a row to play with numbers, and snapped the picture before they were consumed to make tension.

It's cold, and a man leaves the warmth of the home below to climb a mountain. Escape? Or challenge?

This map was on the wall at Britany's house, and we were all talking about places that were meaningful to us in the world. No one mentioned Provo. And I think this picture captures how much they would be somewhere else.

This is in the TMA office. I've always thought the FERPA signs look like propaganda, but the placement under the Fulton portrait makes it look like propaganda even more.

I wanted to go for mystery here, so I left the subject silhouetted. And give the character with power, so I picked a low angle.

  1. I want to taste the drinks my friend. I love the affinity and the colors in that picture. Utah is gorgeous. I love the blue, cool feel. Also, the man alone made think about our personal journeys. The composition with the map is great how it is right above the people. It made me think like a thought bubble in comics. I agree with the propaganda idea, especially the woman's face. The stair shot creates a suspense feel. The lighting is high contrast which is dynamic and I like how you can even tell that there's a hood.

  2. 1. I like that the bottles aren’t completely perfectly lined up; well at least from an artistic standpoint, it’s making my OCD crazy.
    2. It looks so peaceful. I like how the mountain goes right from the corner of the frame to the middle of the right side.
    3. When you said you were going to take this picture, I wasn’t sure what you where seeing that was worth a picture. After reading your comment on the photo it gained so much more emotional depth to me.
    4. I like all the lines and sharp angles. To me it adds even more to the look of propaganda and coldness.
    5. This is a cool shot! I love that you weren’t afraid to take the camera to ground level

  3. 1. These drinks do look pretty mysterious. The vibrant colors of the drinks contrast well with the white walls.
    2. Great landscape shot! Beautiful!
    3. This picture turned out really well. It strikes me as being a really profound photo. I feel exactly what you were trying to achieve with this picture, although personally I would've liked to see a higher angle, and a little more centered.
    4. This totally looks like propaganda. I wonder how many other people have made the same connection.
    5. This photo feels very ominous, and the texture on the carpet adds a little variety to the white hallway.

  5. Photo #5: Dhane, this photo is super interesting. The low angle and the shadowy figure at the top of the twisted staircase reads like a still from a horror movie. It's super engrossing and mysterious; I immediately wanted to know more about the subject and the story of it. Great job.
